Harry Kane headed in an equalizer in stoppage time to prevent Bayern Munich’s first defeat of the season, but the 2-2 draw against Union Berlin ended their record-winning start in all competitions.
Union thought they had won with Danilho Goekhi’s second goal in the 83rd minute, but Kane headed in the equalizer. Bayern tops the Bundesliga with 28 points, six ahead of RB Leipzig.
Bayern, who had recorded 16 wins from 16 matches on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Champions League holders Paris St Germain 2-1, seemed to have gained steam against the hard-working Berliners.
Union vs Bayern – As it happened
The hosts thought they had taken the lead with Ilyas Ansah’s ninth-minute header, but fans were bitterly disappointed after the referee ruled it marginally offside following a VAR review.
It was still ahead in the 27th when Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer allowed Goekhi’s weak shot to slip through his hands and under his body. It was the first time Bayern had conceded a goal in the first half and the first time they had fallen behind in the Bundesliga this season.
Luis Diaz, who had scored twice but was also sent off against PSG, leveled after an excellent one-two against Josip Stanisic, sliding to keep the ball in play and curling a shot from close to the touchline into the far top corner.
The Colombian should have scored again for the champions in the 45th after being sent on by Kane, but he shot well wide and could only beat the keeper.
It was the hosts who scored again in the 83rd when Dutchman Doekhi slotted home after Kane failed to clear a free-kick. However, the England captain made up for it with his thirteenth league goal of the season.
