In the middle of the night, nature called and I briefly left my tent. I was fascinated by the sky, which was glowing from the Wildcat Fire.

Wildcat Fire Glowing Sky

I woke up at 4:45 to the patter of rain in my tent. When the alarm went off, I initially stayed in bed. «Go up, not too much. That’s the thing.»

But the rain seemed to stop. I checked the Garmin forecast again and it jumped from a 6pm forecast yesterday to a 7am forecast today. According to the updated forecast, the rain could have a break in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. Now I’m getting ready to walk to Mike Urich’s cabin.

One caveat is that it’s only supposed to be between 45 and 48°F. It feels cool and windy outside.

I’m using thermals to keep warm and to see if they’re enough without my bloating. Since my puffer is sagging, I would like to keep it packed and dry if there is a chance of rain.

I arrived at Mike Ulrich’s cabin before it started raining and found Firefly, AKA and Mirthful there, saying they were spending the night. The cabin is really neat. It is a wooden cabin with a loft and is about 15′ x 20′. There is a wood stove and behind it a large shed full of firewood. When I arrived, they already had a fire in the wood stove, keeping the inside nice and warm.

Having a warm common space protected from the rain allowed us all to relax and take things easy. We had a lot of fun chatting about various topics: Ironman, shared musical tastes (like Lake Street Dive), ultra racing, Thriller, etc. We finally watched Fellowship of the Ring through Rivendell on AKA’s phone. SP finally joined us after it started raining.
