Norwegian Andreas Schjelderup has been convicted in Denmark for sharing sexual videos of minors

A Danish court on Wednesday found Norwegian footballer Andreas Schjelderup guilty of sharing sexual material of two boys under the age of 18 and gave him a suspended prison sentence.

21-year-old Schjelderup, who played for Danish side FC Nordsjaelland last year, told the court in Copenhagen that he had received the 27-second video on the Snapchat social media app and had forwarded it to a group chat of four friends.

The winger, who now plays for Portuguese club Benfica, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, telling the court he had realized from the first few seconds that the people in the video were under 18.

“When I forwarded it to my friends, I quickly realized it was illegal and quickly deleted the video,” Schjelderup said.

In a statement about Instagram on November 8, Schjelderup apologized, saying he wanted to «open up to all of you about a stupid mistake I made.»

Judge Mathias Eike gave Schjelderup a two-week suspended prison sentence, meaning he will only have to serve a prison sentence if he is found guilty of a new crime in the next twelve months.

The prosecutor in the case had asked the court to sentence Schjelderup to a minimum of twenty days in prison.

His lawyer Anders Nemeth told the court the defense would need time to deliberate before deciding whether to appeal.

Norway qualified for the 2026 World Cup on Sunday after a 4-1 win against Italy in the final qualifying match. Schjelderup was an unused substitute for the Milan match.
