Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe scored four goals, including the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history, to give his side a 4-3 comeback victory over hosts Olympiakos on Wednesday.
Mbappe’s first three goals came in the space of six minutes and 42 seconds in the first half, but it was a tough encounter for the Spaniards before they recorded their first win over Olympiakos at their fifth attempt and ended a run of three games in all competitions without a win.
Real climbed to fifth in the standings with 12 points, with the top eight automatically qualifying for the knockout stages and three matchdays remaining. Olympiacos dropped to 33rd place by two points.
«The most important thing was to win, to break the cycle, to feel that feeling,» Real coach Xabi Alonso said. «The three points were also important to be in the top eight. It was competitive and hard-fought, but we needed it.»
«In the Champions League there are moments for everything, just like in the competition. I really liked that we didn’t lose our heads at 1-0, we played calmly and maturely and turned it around. We are back to winning ways and we won in Greece for the first time.»
He also had special praise for his top scorer.
«Mbappe is very important, that goes without saying,» Alonso said. «His goals are fundamental, but that’s not all. His personality… teamwork, unity.»

The visiting side opened their account when Mbappe beat two defenders in the 22nd minute through Vinicius Jr.’s assist, canceling out Chiquinho’s goal that gave the hosts an eight-minute lead.
Two minutes later he headed in Arda Guler’s cross, and before the Greeks had time to recover from the double goal, the French forward completed his hat-trick with another fine finish.
The Spaniards were in complete control for the rest of the first half and also hit the woodwork through Aurelien Tchouameni, but the hosts reduced the deficit seven minutes after the restart through a header from close range by Mehdi Taremi.
Mbappé appeared to have restored order with another assist from Vinicius Jr. for his fourth goal on the hour, but Olympiacos refused to give up.
It scored again through Ayoub El Kaabi’s header in the 81st minute to ensure Real were firmly in their own half and piled on the late pressure.
El Kaabi came close again, as did Gabriel Strefezza, but neither could find a goal.
