Portugal defeated Austria 1-0 in the final to win the FIFA Under-17 World Cup at the Khalifa International Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar on Thursday.
Benfica’s Anisio Cabral scored the only goal of the match in the 32nd minute after a cutback from Duarte Cunha. The striker took his tournament tally to seven goals, one behind Austrian Johannes Moser, who took home the golden boot.
Portugal, who had not qualified for the previous nine editions since 2003, defeated Belgium, Mexico, Switzerland and Brazil in the knockout stages to reach the final.
Portugal, coached by Joao Santos, followed up their win at the U-17 European Championship earlier this summer by claiming their first World Cup title.
Austria reached the final for the first time with striking results over England, Japan and Italy in the knockouts.
