Neymar proved his class again as he scored an assist with an existing injury to help his boyhood club Santos escape the relegation zone into Brazil’s top flight.
The Brazilian forward was battling a meniscus injury and his medical records had ruled him out for the rest of the year.
However, with Santos 17th in the standings and staring at a possible drop to the second division, Neymar started the match and contributed two of the three goals in Santos’ 3-0 win over Sport Club do Recife on Friday.
He opened the scoring in the 25th minute, setting up Joao Schmidt for the third goal, provisionally moving Santos up to 15th in the standings, two clear of the relegation bracket.
