Premier League 2025-26: Foden’s late winner sinks Leeds, Sunderland move into top four with comeback win

Midfielder Phil Foden produced a dramatic performance to score in the first and 91st minutes to seal Manchester City’s 3-2 victory over Leeds United on Saturday in a breathtaking finish that kept Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League title race.

The match appeared to be heading for a draw after second-half goals from Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, but Foden made some space for himself in the penalty area before firing home.

The victory puts City in second place for the time being with 25 points, four behind leader Arsenal, who play on Sunday. Leeds are 18th with 11 points.

Matheus Nunes worked the ball down the wing and crossed to Foden, whose first-time shot skimmed the underside of the crossbar and ended up 59 seconds into the match.

City continued to dominate and Josko Gvardiol doubled the lead in the 25th when he poked home a point-blank shot from a corner.

Nmecha struck from the penalty spot in the 68th minute, awarded for Gvardiol’s tackle of Calvert-Lewin in the box.

Foden’s late goal came amid a flurry of chances for City at the death.

Bournemouth scored two goals within 15 minutes, with Amine Adli firing home after Evanilson’s shot came off the post and Tyler Adams catching Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs off guard with a long-range strike from the center circle.

Enzo Le Fee’s penalty got Sunderland back into the match after half an hour and the hosts equalized in the opening minute of the second period when Granit Xhaka’s perfect through ball met Bertrand Traore’s left foot.

Brian Brobbey’s header from Le Fee’s corner put Sunderland ahead in the 69th minute, moving them a point above fifth-placed Aston Villa, who host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
