Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati will undergo surgery on her broken ankle on Tuesday, her club Barcelona announced on Monday.
Bonmati suffered the fracture on Sunday during training with the Spanish national team.
“Tests carried out on Monday confirmed that she had suffered a fracture of the fibula on the left ankle,” Barcelona said in a statement.
On Sunday, Catalan media suggested she faced more than three months if she needed surgery.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner will miss Tuesday’s Nations League final against Germany and several matches for her club in the coming weeks.
Bonmati started for Spain in a 0-0 draw against Germany on Friday in the first leg of the Nations League final.
She will miss the upcoming Champions League matches against Benfica and Paris FC in December, as well as the Spanish Super Cup in January and several Liga F matches.
