The 2025 FIFA Arab Cup kicked off on Monday with hosts Qatar suffering a 0-1 defeat to Palestine at Al Bayt Stadium.
On the opening day, Syria also defeated Tunisia 1-0 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Before the opening match, spectators were treated to a dazzling tournament opener that celebrated Arab unity and the region’s diverse identities, shared heritage and enduring historical ties. It featured compelling musical compositions and majestic performances from renowned Syrian actor Rashid Assaf and acclaimed British actor Jeremy Irons.

Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, said: «The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 will bring countries from across the Arab world together and create memories for players, coaches and supporters. I look forward to seeing all 16 teams shine and an exciting competition ahead.»
