East Bengal beats Punjab FC to advance to the third AIFF Super Cup final


East Bengal defeated Punjab FC 3-1 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa on Thursday to enter their third AIFF Super Cup final.

The Red and Gold Brigade will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Mumbai City FC and FC Goa, which will take place at the same venue later in the day.

It was the Kolkata side who took the lead in the twelfth minute thanks to Mohamad Rashid’s sparkling shot from the edge of the box. However, Punjab FC restored parity in the 34th minute with Daniel Ramirez converting from the penalty spot.

East Bengal got back into the lead on the stroke of half-time when Kevin Sibille headed the ball home, before captain Saul Crespo’s shot in the second half set up another top-flight clash for Oscar Bruzon’s side.

Earlier, East Bengal finished second in the first edition of the Super Cup in 2018 when they lost to Bengaluru FC in the final. In 2024, it defeated Odisha FC to claim its maiden title.
