Lionel Messi won the MLS Cup for Inter Miami for the first time after his side defeated Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2025 MLS Cup final at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday.

Messi provided two assists as Inter Miami scored twice late on to secure victory in a tough match. It is the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy and the third Messi has won since moving to the US, after the Leagues Cup in 2023 and Supporters’ Shield in 2024.

The match was also important because it was the last professional match in the playing careers of Spanish legends Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, both of whom had announced their retirement at the end of the season.
