Tottenham Hotspur’s players were finally «on the same page» as they put aside their dreadful Premier League home form to beat Brentford 2-0 on Saturday.
It was the first time manager Thomas Frank had faced his old club since leaving for Tottenham last summer, and the pressure was on after the home defeat to Fulham last weekend, after which Frank criticized the fans.
But a dazzling performance from summer signing Xavi Simons, who created the opener for Richarlison before scoring solo to make it 2-0, secured a comfortable win.
It was Tottenham’s second league win at home this season, and their first since beating Burnley in the opening weekend of August. In 2025, it has won just four at home in the league.
«Sometimes you work hard on things, and sometimes it just suddenly clicks. As I said before, the team has gotten a little bit out of sync at some stages,» Frank told reporters.
«Today a lot more players were on the same page throughout the game. I think we looked like such a threat going forward. Great chances, played with tempo, tempo, penetration and unpredictability. So I like that, it’s everything we want to be.»
Dutch international striker Simons, signed from RB Leipzig, has struggled in North London so far, often finding himself on the bench, but his first goal for the club on Saturday was worth the wait. After winning a 50-50 tackle, he charged forward and sliced through the Brentford defense before heading home.
«I think every player needs that extra bit of confidence. That comes from his performance and the performance of the team. That assist and goal gave him that lightness in his step,» said Frank.
After hitting rock bottom against Fulham, Tottenham responded strongly on Tuesday with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United and now an impressive performance against Brentford.
“We felt we needed a top performance for all of us and if we can do more of this together, this can be the fortress we dream of,” said Frank, whose side have 22 points in ninth place. «It’s a step forward. There are a lot of steps, but I loved it.»
