PCT SOBO DAY 108 – Last day to be pampered

Day 108

Start: Dove Spring Canyon Road, mile 2032.7

End: Dirt road, mile 2061.6

Miles driven: 28.9 miles

Another morning before dawn my day began. With no sun, the air was cold, so I quickly headed towards the fire after packing up. There weren’t many people up and out yet, so I was able to spend a few minutes in the back of the warm camper watching Peaches and her mom prepare breakfast.

Today a gift awaited us. Breakfast was an egg, bacon, and avocado English muffin with tea. Hmm! Once people started to get up, I went back outside and chatted for a while before leaving. As always, I was one of the first to leave since I wasn’t the fastest.

As the sun rose, the air warmed and I began to take off layers. The morning’s conversation revolved around the weather ahead. Apparently cold rain was forecast for tomorrow, which meant a nasty day. It was predicted to begin tonight and continue well into the morning. As much as he feared that, there wasn’t much he could do to avoid it. At least he’d be in town tomorrow afternoon.

Today passed without incident. There were a few scenic climbs in the morning, but after that, I found myself in the trees. He could see clouds starting to gather in the distance, but they weren’t yet thick enough to bring rain.

Around lunchtime, I met up with Sun and we walked together for the rest of the day. It was nice to have company and he kept me at a faster pace. Soon we reached the crossroads towards the camp and an arrow made from beer cans pointed us in the right direction. We came to the right place!

It was only around 5:30 p.m., but we were far from the first to arrive at camp. Tonight we were treated to a real fire as it was going to pour down rain tonight. Unfortunately, last night we came out as spoiled hikers. Peaches and Shaggy’s family and friends were leaving us tomorrow. We all shared another fantastic meal and said goodbye thank you. It would be strange not to see them all together like this again.

Sun and I made a plan to go out together in the morning since tomorrow would be a difficult day. There weren’t many good places to camp, so tents were scattered haphazardly across the uneven terrain. Still, once I entered my tent, I fell asleep in no time.

And that’s a day in the life of a PCT SOBO hiker!
