Chelsea are determined to end the year on a high after losing points in their last two Premier League matches, manager Enzo Maresca said on Tuesday ahead of the home game against Bournemouth. Fifth-place Chelsea lost a lead when they lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on Saturday and are 13 points behind leaders Arsenal.
«It has become very important to end the year in the best way. It will certainly be another difficult match because they are all the same. But we have to win games as quickly as possible,» Maresca told reporters on Monday.
The manager, who led Chelsea to victory at this year’s Club World Cup, said he was pleased with his team’s performance in the first half, when they dominated possession and Villa did not allow a shot on target.

“We have to have confidence and we have to think that hopefully we can get close to those in front of us again,” Maresca said. Third-placed Villa fought back in the second half, with Ollie Watkins scoring twice to record an 11th straight win in all competitions.
«I don’t think it’s random if something happens all the time. We have to understand why, regardless of whether we win, draw or lose, we lose control a little bit when we concede a goal. So we have to understand the reason why,» Maresca added.
