Defending champions East Bengal FC rose to pole position in the 2025-26 Indian Women’s League with a huge 5-0 win over Nita FA at the Kalyani Stadium.
It was a top-of-the-table clash that turned out to be anticlimactic and rather one-sided. East Bengal’s noted scorers Sulanjana Raul (6′) and Soumya Guguloth (42′) scored in the first half before Ugandan duo Resty Nanziri (50′) and Fazila Ikwaput (63′) put the match to bed early in the second half. Substitute Priyangka Devi Naorem rounded off the scoring with a fifth goal in the 88th minute.
Gradually Nita consolidated and started to see more of the ball. Despite being the league’s top scorer before the match with 13 goals, Paromita Sit’s side lacked penetration.
With four wins out of four, East Bengal moved to the top of the points table. Sethu FC, which won against Sesa with an equally good margin of 5-0 on Friday, is in second place with 10 points from five games. Nita FA also has 10 points and has dropped to third place, behind Sethu on goal difference.
Sethu FC records a 5-0 win against Sesa
Continuing their impressive performance in the Indian Women’s League, Sethu FC put in an impressive performance to defeat Sesa Football Academy 5-0.
Martina Thokchom (24′), Kaviya Pakkirisamy (27′), Lisham Babina Devi (35′), Lynda Kom Serto (65′) and Ruchi (72′) — found the scoresheet, highlighting the depth and balance in Sethu’s side. Just as important was the clean sheet – the first since April 2025. This was in fact the first time since the 2022-2023 season that Sethu FC managed to win consecutive IWL matches in the same season.
