FA Cup: Gabriel Martinelli hat-trick helps Arsenal beat Portsmouth FC

Gabriel Martinelli scored his first hat-trick for Arsenal as the Premier League leaders defeated Portsmouth 4-1 to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Record 14-time cup winners Arsenal fell behind in the third minute when Colby Bishop raised the decibel level at Fratton Park by firing home a rebound following a Kepa Arrizabalaga save.

However, they were only behind by five minutes, when Arsenal equalized with its first of three goals from corners.

Portsmouth were unable to process the set piece and the ball eventually went in via home player Andre Dozzell.

Martinelli put the visitor in front when he glanced into Noni Madueke’s corner in the 25th minute and struck the post from close range shortly afterwards.

Madueke put a penalty wide just before half-time to keep Portsmouth in the fight, but Arsenal came away after the break when Martinelli converted after a brilliant pass from Gabriel Jesus.

He completed his hat-trick with a header, as Portsmouth were once again unable to defend against an Arsenal set piece. Arsenal have now scored seventeen goals from corners this season.

In the early kick-off of the day, top side Leeds United also came from a goal behind to win 3-1 at second-tier Derby County.
