FA Cup 4th round draw: Giant-killer Macclesfield draw Brentford, Rosenior’s Chelsea get Hull

New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior was handed a trip back to his former club Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round draw on Monday, while non-league giants killers Macclesfield welcome top side Brentford.

Sixth-tier Macclesfield, coached by Wayne Rooney’s younger brother John, caused the biggest upset in FA Cup history last Saturday when they beat holders Crystal Palace 2-1 at the Moss Rose pitch.

They will have to deliver another huge setback against Brentford, punching above their weight in fifth place in the Premier League standings.

«We said before that we would have liked to sign Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal, but another Premier League team is incredible,» Rooney said after the draw at Anfield.

Rosenior played in the 2014 FA Cup final for Hull City against winners Arsenal and also managed the club from 2022 to 2024.

He started his tenure as Chelsea boss last Saturday with a 5-1 FA Cup third round win over Championship (second tier) Charlton Athletic.

Premier League leaders Arsenal, the 14-time FA Cup winners, will host League One (third tier) Wigan Athletic, who won in 2013.

Aston Villa, who defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the third round, will play Newcastle United at home in an all-Premier League clash.

Liverpool will also face Premier League opponents in Brighton & Hove Albion when they beat League One Barnsley at home on Monday evening.

Manchester City will have a fourth-tier opponent in Salford City, in what would be a non-matching local match, or in Swindon Town.

The matches will be played around the weekend of February 14 and 15.
