Conor Gallagher comes to Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of England midfielder Conor Gallagher from La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old joins Thomas Frank on a long-term contract after a season and a half in Spain.

«I wanted to be a Spurs player and luckily Club felt the same way. It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I am ready to get on the pitch,» said Gallagher in a statement on Tottenham Hotspur’s website.

“I know how great the fans are, I am very happy to be part of this and want to create special moments and memories together.”

Gallagher came through the Chelsea academy and became club captain after establishing himself in the Blues’ first team. He made a total of 177 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and has also been loaned out to Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

He joined Diego Simeone in August 2024 and made 77 appearances. His goal after 27 seconds in Atletico’s round of 16 draw against Real Madrid made him the first Englishman to score in a Madrid derby, and was the fastest goal by an Englishman in the UEFA Champions League.

He also represented England 22 times and was part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2024 UEFA European Championship squads.
