11 tents in the backyard of Tom Levadi, Dalton $ 11.75

I woke up in the front courtyard of the cookie lady feeling renewed. It is surprising what a good set of ear plugs can do, since I did not hear anything about the traffic that passes the night.

An easy package and it was time to return to the road. Today, at least on the map, it seemed an easy tour, without really significant increases or descents.

New Zealand conditions

When I left, the track began to seem disturbingly familiar. The large roots crossed the path and began to appear mud patches. In general, I find that the land has much more effect on its speed than topography. And this Kiwi land definitely slowed me.

The Duckboards (Bogkoards) began to be more frequent, and they are always welcome, since they help with speed and stop risking your shoe to the chupation mud next.

The forest continues to surprise with its beauty. The AT is often described as the green tunnel, and does not disappoint in this regard. The colors are vibrant and the trees are endless.

Food

I started establishing myself in a rhythm with food after a tumultuous first day without stove and then bought unknown in unknown supermarkets that are flooded with options.

Breakfast tends to be Bars mueli. It seems to me that I can eat them happily in the first hour on the way, and they give me a good impulse. It also means that I can pack and start in the morning, which is generally my preference.

For lunch, I still consume tortillas as I was born in Mexico. Sometimes they end up suffocated in PB, and other times my salty side is activated and appear in my mouth with pieces of cheese and pepperoni.

The afternoon tea is about snacks. In general, the mixture of paths, sometimes fried, always delicious.

Dinner’s brewing are easy here in the United States of A. There are so many options in the supermarket. I tend to rotate through the sides of Mac N Cheese, Pad Thai Ramen (The Goat) and Knorrs of rice. All require very little gas to cook and leave perfect.

Tom Levadi

The path continued when it began to the small town of Dalton. A city resident, Tom Levadi, has been supporting hikers for more than 40 years since his home on the road. I arrived to see the 80 -year -old man ending up cutting the grass, where thousands of hikers have camped.

Tom and I had a talk and he gave me the disposition of the earth, before telling me to settle where I want in his patio and to do me at home.

The kindness of this man and his clearly love for the path were extraordinary. As the afternoon progressed, he greeted all hikers with the same enthusiasm he had shown me, and spent the rest of the day ensuring that everyone was ordered and comfortable.

Tom suggested a different resupply plan than he had originally intended, so a rapid incursion of the hiker box on his porch threw enough food during the two days before reaching my next grocery store.

For those who wonder what the hell is a hiker box, it is a box of discarded articles left by other hikers in the previous days. They are found in all kinds of places along the path. And it is crazy that people leave behind. In this box I found macaroni with cheese, a chili with liophilized chili meat, some sampling bars and PB. I mean seriously, that leaves a complete and unopened bottle of PB!

Hygiene

On the 11th he felt the right day to address my personal hygiene requirements (which are low in the best case). With the clothes that smelled beyond its use by date, and a body with a lot of mud and sweat in several places, I decided to take advantage of the facilities Dalton had to offer. I went to the laundry, and for $ 3.75 I was able to ensure a dusty laundry pack and 32 minutes of a washing machine.

Now wash all the clothes you have creates a quite obvious dilemma. What are you doing for 32 minutes without them? This is where your rain team is very useful. I sat in the laundry with my rain and skirt jacket (a little wet next to the skin I have to say), and I was happy when the machine finished its business.

Step one complete. I put on the wet clothes and walked a mile to the recreational center of Dalton, where for the princely sum of a donation of $ 1, they gave me a towel and sent me to the showers in the basement. I rinsed about four times from head to toe, and went out to a new man.

Dessert served store stores

I had felt comfortable in my store after cooking a Mac N Cheese dinner, and I was watching day 2 of the World Testing Championship (the Australians won the Bamboles), when an angel appeared at the door of my store. She was Tom’s neighbor, and she went from the store to the store that offered her homemors’ brownies.

I mean, you really can’t invent these things. I am lying in my store, surrounded by 10 other tents, in the backyard of someone, and I have served the dessert in bed. People, this is destined to be an arduous walk in difficult conditions and is making fun of my suffering!

You don’t have to say that I anticipate sleeping very, very good.
