Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior dismissed any idea of Cole Palmer leaving the Blues as ‘unrealistic’, despite reports linking the England international with a move to Manchester United.
Palmer, who hails from Manchester, joined the Blues from Manchester City in 2023 and quickly developed into Chelsea’s star player during his first two seasons in London.
Reports have emerged that the 23-year-old is keen to return to the north of England with the team he supported as a boy.
Palmer’s impact has been limited this season by recurring injury problems with five goals and no assists in 13 appearances in all competitions.
Asked ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League trip to Napoli on Wednesday whether Palmer remains “untouchable” and happy at the club, Rosenior replied: “Yes and yes. It’s simple.
«I’m not surprised by the timing. A new manager comes in and suddenly there are people who want to be restless. That’s not true. Cole is here, he’s very happy and I can’t wait to see him on the pitch.»
«There’s no reason for a guarantee. It’s so unrealistic. It comes out of nowhere, there’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have the conversation, that’s where I am now.»
Palmer has been included in the Chelsea squad that traveled to Italy after missing the last two games due to a persistent groin problem.

The English team is eighth in the Champions League and will probably have to win in Naples to qualify directly for the last sixteen through a place in the top eight.
It faces familiar opposition in the form of Napoli boss Antonio Conte, who was the last man to lead Chelsea to Premier League glory in 2016/17.
But Serie A champions Napoli are fighting to avoid elimination by getting into the top 24 after winning just two of their first seven games.
“The results have not followed the performance that Antonio’s team has delivered,” said Rosenior, who has won four of his first five games since replacing Enzo Maresca.
«We know it will be a very difficult match in a very special atmosphere.»
