Day 13: Three Bigelow - The Trek

Tomorrow windy and a pleasant and warm up

On Friday the thirteenth arrived and nothing bad happened. We had a great time, we met many nobles and hikers in the section, and we made many spills. Like 6,000 feet and hit two 4,000 feet.

The morning was windy and the wind that left West Carry Pond was brutal. We start the day in our long Johns and sweaters. Once outside the wind tract, we returned to our hiking uniforms. We meet the Janes. Two very pleasant excursionists who go to Catatunk and then conclude this section for the year.

The first eleven miles were quite meek. Some minor ups and downs, but we were anticipating what was to come. The first big climb was a warmer gain of 1,900 feet of gain at 3.5 miles. We moved efficiently through the terrain and got up in about two hours.

On the top of Little Bigelow, we met Hop. He had just finished smoking a spliff and felt talkative. He started on March 4 and was on his way to a quick walk. He summed up his experience on the social path such as being close to a group of old people with sleep apnea and small prostates. Many snoring and breaks for the bathroom at night.

Unfortunate joes and the great bigelows

We stopped for the careless lunch wraps of Joe and enjoyed the warm sun. After lunch, we slowly approached the big Bigelows.

The outcrop of these peaks was in our opinion while we descended to the notch. It is always a bit discouraging to descend the progress you have made to rise again. We arrived at Safford Notch, we took a fast snack and headed to Bigelow Avery Peak.

We were surrounded by huge rocks to the size of the submarines that support each other. It was surprising. We climbed and climb a little more until we broke the tree line and started seeing everything. This must have been the lighter summit day that we have had so far. There was still smoke mist in the horizon, but visibility was high in general.

Omit Bigelow Col for the great reward

Only two more peaks to get home. We descended to Bigelow Col Campsite and had another snack. Originally we were going to stay here, but pressing would offer us an earlier exit for our city day tomorrow. While we were here, we confirmed reservations with the shelter and even obtained a King King bed! I can’t wait to stretch.

We ascended again for Bigelow West Peak and the views were again incredible. Ski season, huge lakes.

Our final rise was South Horn. This was slow. I was tired. A mile to go. Then half a mile. A slow half mile.

We reach the horns that lean. A glacial tarn is the water source. I met some young backpackers. Many creatures who want to eat our food. Five gallons for food storage. Five miles to the city.
