Barcelona and breakthrough midfielder Fermín López have agreed to extend his contract until June 2031, the Spanish club said on Friday.
The 22-year-old Fermín, together with Lamine Yamal and Pedri Gonzalez, is one of the club’s young top talents.
Fermín was close to a move to Chelsea last summer but stayed at Barcelona and has remained a versatile member of Hansi Flick’s squad thanks to his scoring instincts.
He scored ten goals this season, including five in the Champions League, and provided eleven assists, despite not always being in the starting line-up.
Barcelona called the new deal with Fermín a ‘strategic decision’.
Fermín joined Barcelona at the age of 13. His previous contract expired in 2029.
Fermín has played just five games for Spain but is expected to be part of the World Cup squad this summer.
