Carrick enjoys ‘the best feeling’ after Man United’s late goal

Michael Carrick said Manchester United’s last-gasp win against Fulham was the ‘best feeling’ after Benjamin Sesko sealed a pulsating 3-2 victory on Sunday.

United took the lead through Casemiro’s first-half header and were in control when Matheus Cunha scored after the break at Old Trafford.

In an incredible finale, Raul Jimenez’s penalty with five minutes to go gave Fulham hope before Kevin’s wonder goal drew the visitors level in stoppage time.

To United’s credit, they hit back straight away as the much-maligned Sesko’s fourth goal in his last four games sealed Carrick’s third successive win.

After surprise wins over Manchester City and Premier League leaders Arsenal, this remarkable encounter suggested former United midfielder Carrick might have the Midas touch.

United remained unbeaten in their last seven league matches to move up to fourth place as their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League increase.

“It’s the best feeling I can say,” Carrick said. “Some of the best moments I’ve been a part of here are: you can dissect performances, and there are pluses and there are not, and then you get that moment of elation and excitement.

“For me there is no better place than this in front of the Stretford End. In the end it means more.”

“People leave here with more than just ‘United won today’. It’s the layers on top of that, the emotion and the feeling, and that’s why we all love it so much.»

United needed substitute Sesko’s dramatic contribution after getting Fulham off the hook. Carrick admitted this was a sign there is a lot to work on despite the turnaround since he took charge.

«The character we showed after a big setback, a huge setback, in the 90th minute, to do that after what we did last week is probably the most pleasing thing. To keep the faith, to keep the confidence,» he said.

«We can play better, and that’s probably the most enjoyable thing. We can play better the rest of the game, we can do a lot of things better at certain times, but I can’t fault the players’ belief.»

“It got us through the day and it’s a good feeling when it does.”
