Cristiano Ronaldo out of Al Nassr’s selection again; Saudi Pro League says no player is bigger than club

Cristiano Ronaldo was once again left out of the squad for Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League match against Al Ittihad source 10.

It is the second game in a row that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been left out of the squad, with Ronaldo missing the Saudi Pro League match against Al Riyadh on February 2.

The development comes at a time when Ronaldo, according to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, is on strike after Nassr had a quiet winter transfer window.

The 41-year-old has 18 months left on his contract and is reportedly earning £500,000 a day at his current club, having moved from Manchester United in 2022. Since then, he has been the league’s biggest ambassador, with several European stars moving to the league.

However, several of these newcomers look set to return to Europe, but the Portuguese captain remained a mainstay for Al Nassr until last week.

In a statement issued to BBC Sportsa Saudi Pro League spokesperson said that regardless of Ronaldo’s status, no player is bigger than the club source 11.

«Cristiano has been fully involved with Al-Nassr since his arrival and has played an important role in the club’s growth and ambition. Like any elite competitor, he wants to win,» the spokesperson said.

“But no individual – no matter how important – makes decisions outside their own club source 12.

«Recent transfer activity clearly demonstrates that independence. One club became stronger in one way. Another club took a different approach. These were club decisions, taken within approved financial parameters.»

Ronaldo scored 111 goals and provided 22 assists in 127 appearances for Al Nassr, with the Arab Club Champions Cup being his only trophy with the team.
