OH-IO – The Walk

OHIO

Greetings from Ohio. My name is Jim C. and I will be starting a hike with Flip Flop on April 22nd.^{North Dakota} in northern Virginia, heading north toward Katahdin. The “Flop” will begin in October and head south to Amnicola Falls. There will be a 2 month gap to accommodate adventures other than hiking!

My biography –

I’ve hiked solo in the Adirondacks, Rocky Mountain National Park, and sections of the AT, including the length of VT at age 60. I have solo canoe camped in Algonquin Provincial Park and the Boundary Water Canoe Area. I have dreamed of hiking the AT since my childhood. Now, at 68, I better get moving! My wife wisely demanded that I leave my solo camping for my youth. If I go, I must have a hiking buddy. My best friend from high school recently retired and happily joined. I am so grateful to have you join our adventure!

Blog objectives –

1^street – Let us recognize that hiking is a selfish activity! We leave our families and careers for up to 6 months. Let’s give a big Shout To those who support us along our path!

2^{North Dakota} – I will do a walk in memory of my nephew, Ryan, who died of leukemia. Ryan was one of those unforgettable people. Wise and knowledgeable on all topics, but kind and empathetic. He would never use his knowledge to make another person feel small. Instead, he would use his wisdom in conversation to make the other person proud of himself! Diagnosed with childhood leukemia at age 17, Ryan went through 4 remissions until succumbing at age 27.
