This morning I woke up with my alarm at 6:30 after waking up a lot of times last night feeling that I had not slept. As usual, my tired brain deceived me to close my eyes again and I had vivid dreams until I woke up at 7 with a beginning. He had told Underdog to give me a attention call if he was not awake at 7:30, and I saw him preparing, so I quickly went into action.
It was cold and wind this morning and delayed when I left my comforter until the last second. I packed my things, took breakfast and lunch food and began to boil water. In addition to the combo of coffee oat packages, I hooked some essential elements of milk breakfast with chocolate in Franklin and mixed it with the rest of my frozen fruit. I have been carrying the fruit since I started and I have not really loved, especially dry figs. It seems a bit sick. This morning I decided that it was time to get rid of him once and for all. The hot chocolate sugar, oatmeal and fruit was overwhelmingly sweet, and it was difficult for me to bear. Towards the end it was literally nauseabundo and almost rose again. Fortunately, I managed to get everything and even drink the gray water to clean my pot. It was not the best breakfast, but at least it was filled.
This sign before a catwalk made me laugh
After a quick private stop at the last minute, it was on the road, just a little later than what I wanted to be at 8:45. It was about 6 miles to the next shelter and only 1000 feet of elevation gain, so I knew it would be quite easy to go the first half of the day. After walking for about half an hour with my thoughts, I kept listening to the paper palace and finished after approximately 2 hours. It was a great reading, very convincing and well written. The path was fresh and windy, which was pleasant to the sun.
A view of Lake Fontana this morning, where I would walk later today.
I arrived at the water source a little more than one mile before the shelter at 11 and pleased me with the rhythm I maintained. I decided to wait to fill the shelter since I had a lot of water. I arrived at the shelter about 30 minutes later and I saw Underdog. I ate a tuna package and a little chocolate peanut butter with almonds and then filled water. There was a rise during the next 3 miles and then down the last 3 miles to the Fontana dam.

I tried to challenge myself to maintain a faster pace in the uphill to obtain that cardiovascular conditioning and spend a quite decent time. Underdog went quite quickly to climbing, but I am used to people being faster than me at the climbs. I’m just trying to compete against myself here, and improve my strength and rhythm.
Very soon I had reached the top of the last climb and began the gradual descent to the road. I heard an episode of dimension 20 that made me laugh out sometimes. There were some steep sections that were more complicated, but it was mostly quick.
A beautiful stream cross
I arrived at the parking lot for the sports port of the Fontana dam at 3 and I saw Underdog. Moments later, a man stopped in a truck and offered to take us to the town. I was planning to see the sports port before deciding to go to the town because I heard that the replenishment was not great. I really just needed a food day and some snacks. But I could not resist a great offer and I gladly threw my backpack at the back of the hitch. The man was a native of North Carolina with a thick southern accent, but he had spent a lot of time living north and told me about his experiences in PA and the north of the state of New York.
We arrived at the general store and had a really terrible selection. Half of the shelves were empty and full of heavy foods with links that were not friendly for hikers. I have ice cream in the store and then the guy offered to take us back. We stopped at the service station on the road that had a not -so -good selection but not so bad and obtained some snacks and some Honeybuns. I asked if I could buy some smooth rolls they use for sandwiches since I was out of tortillas and gave them free, which was very sweet. Trail Magic takes many different ways!
Once they left us where we started, we walked to the sports port, which probably had the best options even though there was not so much. They had cliffs and cecinos bars, and some other friendly snacks for hikers. I obtained a frozen pizza and then loaded my electronics in the seat area.
Beautiful view from the sports port
I left there for a few hours and obtained a blog post before heading to the shelter that was nicknamed Fontana Hilton, because there was running water, water sources, loading and even showers.
Peak Luxury on the path
There were many hikers in the shelter, including some family faces; Duct that was now going with the name of Barefoot path, Wayde, also known as Cyborg and two guys with which I had encountered the last days called Bearbait and Sleepper. After chatting a little, I prepared and ready for the night. I talked to my parents, I showered and then in bed and wrote a little before calling him one night.
The shelter definitely with the best view so far
