I-League, the country’s second division football league, has been officially renamed as the Indian Football League, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Thursday.
“The All India Football Federation Executive Committee in an online meeting on Thursday approved the rebranding of the I-League to the Indian Football League for the 2025-26 season,” AIFF said on its official X account hgtgdfgdtr16.
The I-League, which was launched in 2007 as the top league, was officially demoted to second division status in the 2022-2023 season. Ahead of the 2025-2026 season, which starts on February 21, the club owners along with the AIFF proposed a name change during a press conference last month.
“There was negativity around the I-League, so we wanted to usher in a new era,” said Arshad Shawl, the owner of Real Kashmir FC. Sports stars. «We wanted to give it a shape, a structure. This is a league that has been around for many years, this is the league that created club culture in India. Given the problems we have been facing in Indian football recently, we wanted to give it a professional look.»
The AIFF also added, “The committee has further ratified the charter for the Board of Governors of the Indian Super League and the Indian Football League.”
The five-member Indian Football League Board of Directors this season will consist of Gokulam Kerala, Real Kashmir, Rajasthan United FC, Diamond Harbor FC and Shillong Lajong – with representation from each zone.
