Napoli debutant Alisson Santos scored a late equalizer as the Serie A champions grabbed a 2-2 home draw against AS Roma on Sunday, leaving the side third in the Serie A standings and maintaining their unbeaten home record in the Italian league this season.
The Brazilian, coming on as a substitute for his first league match since joining from Portuguese side Sporting, smashed home a powerful shot eight minutes from the end to keep Napoli three points ahead of fourth-placed Roma.
The visitor looked on course to oust his hosts as striker Donyell Malen continued his scoring drive since arriving in Serie A with a double.
The Netherlands international, who joined on loan from Aston Villa last month, opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added a penalty in the 71st minute as he took his goal tally to five in as many games.
But Napoli fought back after both goals to equalize first through Leonardo Spinazzola in the 40th minute and then Santos as they moved to 50 points, 11 behind leaders Inter Milan.
Center back Evan Ndicka’s tackle provided an early break for Roma and the first goal, with two passes upfield taking new signing Bryan Zaragoza clear on the right flank before going square over for Malen to score.

Spinazzola’s equalizer came as Napoli looked for an opening on the edge of the Roma penalty area. He fired a shot that hit Niccolo Pisilli’s foot and went over goalkeeper Mile Svilar.
The ‘keeper made a good save from Spinazzola’s left-footed effort two minutes into the second half to keep the scores level before Roma took the lead again when Wesley won a penalty after being fouled from behind by Amir Rrahmani.
Malen tucked away the kick to put Roma on course for a first away win at Napoli in eight years, but Santos quickly endeared himself to his new team’s fans with the equalizer.
