Tudor has ‘no time for excuses’ at Tottenham

Igor Tudor, Tottenham Hotspur’s new interim manager, said on Tuesday that the club’s dangerous position in the Premier League is unacceptable as he wants to avoid a relegation battle.

The former Juventus boss has been appointed until the end of the season after Spurs dropped to 16th in the table under Thomas Frank, who was sacked last week.

Tudor will face a baptism of fire at home against leader Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

But he said there can be no excuses despite a long list of injuries that hampered Frank’s eight-month tenure.

“I, together with my staff, have to be very intelligent to find the best possible way in a very short time,” Tudor told Tottenham’s internal media outlet.

«I come here knowing that the situation is not easy. There is no time to make excuses. What I have said from the first day here, each of us must give something more, something extra.»

Spurs have a five-point lead over West Ham in the battle to avoid defeat.

But the Hammers have scored seven more points than Tottenham in their last eight league games after converting a corner under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs, on the other hand, have won only two of their last seventeen league games.

“The club’s position at the moment is one that no one can accept,” said Tudor, who was sacked by Juventus earlier this season after just seven months in charge.

«Every Tottenham fan cannot accept the situation. We are aware of that. But it is not enough to just be aware of that.»

«The situation is not easy because we have a lot of injured players, so we first have to find the best system that suits the players available at the moment.»

Captain Cristian Romero is suspended for the visit of Arsenal, while James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are among those who will be missing from the side through injury.
