AC Milan has a dent in its title after the 0-1 defeat against Parma in Serie A

Mariano Troilo scored an 80th-minute winner as Parma stunned AC Milan with a thumping 1-0 win in Serie A at San Siro on Sunday, all but ending their title chances as leaders Inter Milan celebrated.

The defeat, a first in 25 games in Serie A, leaves Milan in second place on 54 points from 26 games, 10 points behind city rivals Inter with twelve rounds to go. Parma is 12th with 32 points.

Milan had the best chances in a match in which there were no clear opportunities and hit the post through Rafael ‌Leao.

Parma had frustrated Milan all game and then converted a rare chance from a set-piece, something that has been a trademark of the season so far.

The home team dominated possession, but created few clear chances in the first half. The best was for Christian Pulisic, but he shot his shot wide of the left post.

Pulisic saw his shot at goal blocked early in the second half, before Leao unleashed a volley against the base of the post and the ball flashed painfully across goal.

Parma took the lead 10 minutes before the end when Troilo headed in from a corner, but referee Marco Piccinini initially disallowed this due to a block on Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

After a review by the video assistant referee on the field screen, Piccinini overturned his decision in what was likely a fatal blow to Milan’s Scudetto hopes.
