Former Mohun Bagan manager Molina has appointed Honduras as coach for the next FIFA World Cup cycle

Former Mohun Bagan Super Giant coach Jose Francisco Molina has been appointed head coach of the Honduran national football team, the country’s football federation announced on Friday.

“The decision is the response to an in-depth and rigorous analysis process led by the selection committee and sporting director Francis Hernández, in which several international profiles were evaluated until Molina was identified as the ideal professional to lead the new sports project of the Honduran national team,” the Honduras Football Federation said in a statement.

Molina, a former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, returned as coach after almost four months. His last spell was with Bagan, which won the Indian Super League Cup and Shield for the first time under his leadership last season.

However, he was shown the door after the club were knocked out of the group stages of the AIFF Super Cup in November last year following a goalless draw against arch-rivals East Bengal.

At the Honduras team, Molina replaces Reinaldo Rueda, who was fired after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Honduras, 65th in the FIFA rankings, drew with Costa Rica in the qualifiers and lost out on a direct or inter-confederation playoff spot rfv4.
