UEFA Champions League: Galatasaray fans banned from Liverpool match

Galatasaray will not be able to sell tickets to its fans for this month’s Champions League match in Liverpool after UEFA’s Appellate Body upheld sanctions against its supporters throwing objects, setting off fireworks and causing disturbances during last week’s trip to Juventus.

According to media reports, a man and his daughter were injured when fireworks were thrown at Juventus fans in Turin, where the Italian club, down to 10 men, erased a three-goal deficit after a 5-2 first-leg defeat to force extra time in the Champions League play-offs.

Turkish champions Galatasaray, who scored twice in extra time to qualify for the round of 16 with a 7-5 aggregate victory, were also fined 40,000 euros ($46,000) by UEFA’s disciplinary committee for fan behavior.
