Rock Gap Magic – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 10

Good day today from Carter Gap to Rock Gap Shelter. The morning started off moody and then the sky cleared and the views were incredible!

So many notables today

I crossed 100 miles! The funny thing is that from the photos I always thought it was a bridge. Turns out it’s a tower, after a bunch of stairs and a tough climb. But it was great to cross the milestone and I was rewarded with sunny skies.

SUN!

After Jerz and I arrived at Rock Gap, I started hanging things out to dry. For some unknown reason, I put my stamps (for postcards) in a ziploc, but my cigarette wouldn’t allow it. Fortunately he survived.

I was just starting to go eat when the Six Pack hikers showed up. We were told that Freshground was in Rock Gap, so I finished my meal and we headed down from the shelter. Freshground topped us off with grilled cheeses and salad.

Six Pack Hikers hooked me up with a sports cap for my smart water bottle. I use a Sawyer Mini to save weight, but you can’t attach the screw adapter for backwashing. The sport cap works better than the wash syringe that comes with the filter. Literally perfect.

Works like a charm

Filled to the brim with Freshground, we lay down and dozed.

• Breakfast: ramen, oatmeal with granola, fig bars
• I don’t eat lunch (I usually only eat two “meals”)
• Dinner: Potatoes (fresh ground): grilled cheese, salad, gatorade
• Snacks: clif oatmeal raisin bar, millville cereal bar
• Known Today: Six-Pack Hikers
• Days without ramen bomb: 10
