ISL 2025-26: East Bengal eager to return to winning ways as Kerala Blasters chase first points

East Bengal FC will look to regain its winning form when it hosts a struggling Kerala Blasters FC in the first match of Saturday’s Indian Super League double-header at the Salt Lake Stadium vch3.

After a strong start to the season, East Bengal have experienced a slight dip in form in the last two home matches.

The Kolkata side suffered a 1-2 defeat to Jamshedpur FC before being held to a goalless draw by FC Goa.

The results came after an impressive start to the season, as the Red and Gold Brigade registered dominant wins over NorthEast United FC (3-0) and SC Delhi (4-1) in their opening two matches.

East Bengal are preparing for their fifth consecutive home match of the season and currently occupy the fifth spot in the standings with seven points from four matches. The team has also been among the most productive sides in the league to date, emerging as the second highest scoring team (with eight goals) in the league.

Head coach Oscar Bruzon believes the upcoming encounter offers his team a good chance to strengthen its position at the top of the table, although he warned that Kerala Blasters will be a dangerous opponent despite the slow start.

«The match against Kerala Blasters is a good opportunity to strengthen our position at the top of the table. Kerala Blasters will be determined to respond after a difficult start. With new signings in the squad, it will be a tough, wounded and dangerous opponent,» Bruzon said while addressing the media on the eve of the match.

My team is working very well and we are gradually recovering key players who will help us raise our level in the coming weeks. We request our supporters to stay with us until the last minute and continue supporting the team’s growth this season,” he added.

For Kerala Blasters, the campaign so far has been far from ideal. The Kochi club, three-time runners-up in the ISL, have lost all four matches they have played this season and currently sit at the bottom of the table at 13th.

Despite the disappointing run, head coach David Catala said his side has shown encouraging signs in terms of attacking play.

«It is true that our situation is not what we had hoped for, but in the last game we created a lot of chances. The key now is to keep believing in our work and make sure we take advantage of those chances,» Catala said.

«We know we are facing a strong team in East Bengal, but if we play with more intensity, maintain possession and show personality, I am confident we can compete and fight for the result,» he added.
