Dominik Szoboszlai believes Liverpool are “out of time” in their bid to secure UEFA Champions League qualification after dropping points again late in a game.
Hungary’s captain said he understood why many fans left Anfield early – as some even did before Richarlison scored in the 90th minute to grab a 1-1 Premier League draw for struggling Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday – but urged them to be by Arne Slot’s side.
Many of those who stayed inside booed at the final whistle after reigning Premier League champions Liverpool missed a chance to move ahead of Aston Villa into fourth place.
It won one place and one point over Chelsea, but for the eighth time this season conceding a goal in the 90th minute or later proved costly.
«It’s a good question. If I knew the answer I would be the first to go to the team and say it,» Szoboszlai said when asked why Liverpool keep dropping points late.
«A few weeks ago we had a conversation with each other and said, ‘Guys, we don’t have that much time to do this right, so we have to wake up and start on a path that we want to play in the Champions League next season,'» added the Hungary captain, whose first-half free-kick gave Liverpool the lead against Spurs.
“It’s a bit boring when I say this, but we still have to find a solution because we’re running out of time.” completo1.
The midfielder accepted that Liverpool did not have much for the crowd to cheer after scoring his fourth free-kick of the season, but called on them to finish the games as players noted early departures.

“I’m not saying they don’t have the right to leave the stadium, they can leave if they want to,” he said. «We need them and they need to know that. Without them we are one less.»
“It should be normal that we stick together more in difficult times, because that is what we need, we need each other.
«We want to make them happy, it’s not that we do it on purpose. Last year it was fun to watch all the games, but this year it might not be so much fun, I can imagine.
«I don’t think it helps us that people go home after 80 minutes, it doesn’t help us at all. Stay with us.»
