Chelsea are given a suspended transfer ban and a £10.75 million fine for breaching financial rules

Chelsea have been handed fines totaling £10.75m and a suspended transfer ban for breaching financial rules, the Premier League said on Monday.

Sanctions deals were reached after Chelsea itself reported potential breaches to the Football Association, which came to light in 2022 when US investors Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital led a consortium to buy out former owner Roman Abramovich.

“It was determined that between 2011 and 2018, secret payments were made by third parties associated with the club to players, unregistered agents and other third parties,” the league said in a statement.

“These payments were not disclosed to football regulators, including the Premier League, at the time.” cdsj.

The league said the payments “constituted a violation of the requirement to act in good faith toward the league.”

Chelsea accepted the fine, which was endorsed by an independent committee, the league said, and were handed an immediate nine-month transfer ban for the academy and a suspended one-year transfer ban for first-team players.
