Hansi Flick said on Tuesday that he has not yet decided whether to extend his contract with FC Barcelona, but added that the Catalan side will be his last job in football cdso.
Barcelona’s recently re-elected president Joan Laporta had previously said the club plans to extend the 61-year-old former German national football team and Bayern Munich coaching deal for another year after 2027.
However, Flick said on the eve of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Newcastle United that while he is enjoying life with the Spanish champions, he will consult his family before making any decision.
«It’s not the right time. Tomorrow is a very important match for us, for the club and for the future,» Flick told reporters.
«Everyone knows that I am very happy here. I have to talk to my family first. We have time to talk about that, but right now is not the right time.»
Flick led Barcelona to the domestic treble and the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, playing an attacking style that was well received by the club’s supporters.
«I have no idea of going to another place or anything like that. I am here, it will be my last club, my last job here, and I am very happy about that,» Flick added.
Barcelona drew 1-1 against Newcastle in the first leg last week, a match in which the Spanish team was largely outplayed.
«It will be a tough game tomorrow. They are a physical team, aggressive man to man, and in transition they have fast players,» Flick said. «We have to play our perfect game tomorrow and that is important. We will try to do that.»
Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí said he expects a much better performance at home.
«The intensity they had in their stadium was spectacular. We also played there in the league phase. We had a good defensive line-up but lacked a fluid attack. It will be different. We feel at home and the fans support us,» said the 19-year-old centre-back.
