Bruno Fernandes shatters Messi’s record, Ronaldo continues purple patch at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes is having fun at Manchester United this season. After breaking David Beckham’s record as the player with the most assists for the club in a single Premier League season, he continued his goal-scoring performance against Bournemouth on Friday.

From the spot he helped the Red Devils to a 2-2 draw against Cherries, which was his 106th goal for the club. After joining United in January 2020, the Portuguese has become the heart of United’s midfield, scoring more than 200 goals in 320 league appearances.

And he has continued to break club records.

Fernandes has now created 101 chances in 28 Premier League games this season; the fewest number of appearances to reach 100 or more by a Manchester United player in a single season since 2003–04, ahead of Ryan Giggs in 2006–07 (29).

That’s not it.

With two assists and a goal in the last two games, he broke Lionel Messi’s record, while also surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo with 100 or more goals and assists for one club in all competitions.

Appearances for 100 or more goals and assists for one club:

Name Club Total number of appearances needed to achieve the feat
Bruno Fernandes Manchester United 319
Lionel Messi Barcelona 338
Christiano Ronaldo Real Madrid 341
Kevin DeBruyne Manchester city 372
Muhammad Salah Liverpool 372
