Premier League 2025-26: Beto braces as Everton beat Chelsea 3-0

Beto scored twice as Everton recorded a comprehensive 3-0 Premier League win over Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, prompting visiting manager Liam Rosenior to complain about ‘cheap goals’ his side had conceded in recent games.

Chelsea remain in sixth place with 48 points from 31 games, while Everton climb to seventh place with 46 points from the same number of games and take a big step for European football next season.

Beto scored his first after 33 minutes after receiving a superb pass from James Garner, who celebrated his first England call-up this week with an excellent personal display before firing a second through the legs of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez just after the hour mark.

Iliman Ndiaye added a brilliant third with fourteen minutes to play when he curled the ball into the top corner for Everton’s biggest win over Chelsea since 1987, and the first time the team had recorded back-to-back wins at its new stadium on the banks of the River Mersey.

Chelsea has now lost four games in a row in all competitions and has had a difficult few weeks in which it was also dumped from the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.

“The responsibility and liability lies with me,” Rosenior said Air sports.

«We set up the team a little differently today, focusing on a 4-4-2 shape, and I thought we felt comfortable (before Everton scored). The difference in the game was in both boxes; they (Everton) were clinical, and it was a beautiful finish from Ndiaye,» he added.

Rosenior was unhappy with the way his side conceded their first two goals and said this had been a worrying pattern of late.

“Goals give you energy and at the moment we are giving away goals,” he said.

«We started the game tense and then played our way into it. But it seems to happen too often that we give away cheap goals and that energizes the opposition and the crowd, and their confidence rises. Everton fully deserved the win and that is something we have to change very quickly,» Rosenior added.
