The Football Association (FA), English football’s governing body, has confirmed that the Community Shield 2026 has been moved from Wembley Stadium in London to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, due to a pre-planned series of concerts at the venue.
The Community Shield – which pits the winner of the Premier League against the winner of the FA Cup – usually takes place the weekend before the Premier League season starts.
The 2026-2027 Premier League starts on August 22. However, Canadian pop star The Weeknd is currently playing at Wembley Stadium five times between August 14 and 19, making the stadium unavailable.

Formerly known as the Milennium Stadium, the Principality Stadium hosted the Community Shield six times between 2001 and 2006, prior to the construction of the current Wembley Stadium.
This isn’t the only time in recent times that the Community Shield has been moved from Wembley. In 2012 the competition was moved to Villa Park in Birmingham due to the Olympic Games, while in 2021 it was held at the King Power Stadium in Leicester due to the Women’s European Championship final.
Crystal Palace are the current Community Shield holders, having defeated Liverpool on penalties in the 2025 final.
