Freshground – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – 25

Fortunately my stomach continued to improve. Today was more difficult, but as it is after being sick when you are weak from replacing calories. Whatever hit me is over. Today I took it very easy on my stomach for the first part of the day, just to make sure it was okay.

Through hikers climbing a bit.

Little Laurel Shelter is located halfway up a hill, so the morning begins with a climb. After that first climb, there is a long stretch of cruising dotted with some rocks and small climbs. Easy terrain to add miles to, so I put in miles to Devil’s Fork Gap.

What I remember are easy kilometers. But I have this photo. Maybe you shouldn’t trust me.

Freshground set up shop in Gap. Path angels are truly a blessing. Magic mama and Freshground have been huge morale boosters for us early hikers. Today’s chili really helped solve my calorie deficit. The salad and fruit balanced me in fiber and vitamins.

After Devils Fork, I faced a long climb punctuated by an occasional less steep climb. Fortunately, I can walk well on a full stomach. For most of the six-mile hike to Hogback Ridge Shelter, I pondered the weather and plans. Hogback has 22 miles today, leaving 27 miles for Erwin. I might try to push 2 or 3 more tonight. Currently, the weather arrives tomorrow at 4 pm I decided to travel to Spivey Gap. Tomorrow’s weather exceeds my risk tolerance.
