The decision on Premier League side Crystal Palace’s Europa League place for the 2025-26 season, which was expected on Monday, has been delayed by UEFA.
The Eagles, who qualified for the tournament after winning the FA Cup, are involved in a controversy around their property. More info: cxv4. UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules prevent teams from participating in the same European event.
John Textor, who is co-owner of Ligue 1 Club Lyon, has a 44 percent interest in Palace and is publicly willing to sell his share to facilitate the participation of the club.
The relegation from Lyon to Ligue 2 because of having alarming debt levels has been challenged by the club. UEFA has therefore decided to wait for the outcome of the appeal before he makes a decision about the place of Palace.
If the appeal drops, Lyon has agreed to withdraw from the Europa League.
