APALACHES Path Day 109-114 – The Trek

I woke up this morning at 5 and I was still raining, so I slept a little more. Finally I started walking around 7. I started with a descent and a rapid climb to Lone Mountain. The sun rose during this section and the forest seemed magical. Once I arrived at the lonely mountain, the path was flattened for a few miles before Mountain Spaulding. The summit was completely cloudy, so I had no views. From there I descended again and returned to the crockers. The climb was steep but not too difficult. In the upper part I was rewarded without views once again. I quickly went to North Crocker and arrived at a five mile descent to finish the day. This descent was very gradual. I arrived at the road around 6 and the owner of the shelter came to pick me up.

Day 110 Hostel de Maine to West Carry Pond Lean-To (23)

Today was a very long day, but until now it was the best day in Maine. I woke up at 6:30 and had a very good breakfast at the shelter. The shelter was incredible. The beds were very comfortable and the replenishment was very good. I returned to the path around 8:30 and began walking to the big ones. The climb was easy compared to the increases that I have been making recently. The views from Bigelow West Peak and Bigelow Avery Peak were incredible. There were no clouds and almost no wind. I could see all the way back to Mount Washington and advance Mount Katahdin. This was easily Maine’s best view. After enjoying the view from the summit I started my descent. I descended for a few miles and addressed Little Bigelow Mtn. In this section, I walked on roca slabs and had good views of the lakes below. I finished the day with mostly plane land. I arrived at the shelter after dusk, ate some food and went to bed immediately. I am very happy to have the most difficult land in Maine behind me.

Day 111 West Carry Pond Lea-To US Route 201 (14)

I woke up at 4 this morning because I had to cross the Kennebec River before the Canoa service ended at 11. When leaving in the dark, the path was full of rocks, roots and mud. I wasn’t moving very quickly at the beginning, so I worried I wasn’t going to do it. Fortunately, the path was softened and I could move faster. Just before Kennebec, the path was very interesting. I had an important river crossing where the water reached my shorts. After that, the path continued along a river and was very fluid. I moved fast here and enjoyed the beautiful landscape around me. I arrived at the Kennebec at 10 with a full hour to over. I loaded in the canoe and successfully crossed the great river. Once he was on the other side of the river, friend KTS picked us up and took us to a nearby camp. During the rest of the day I relaxed and ate a lot of food. Plan to finish the rest of the path with GQ, KT and BOOSE. We started walking together on the whites and worked better than I could have imagined.

Day 112 US Route

I slept a little this morning and woke up for breakfast at the camp. I ate an egg sandwich, sausages and donuts. Once everyone finished eating, we returned to the path and started walking at 8:30. Even in the morning we were fighting the heat, so we took a break to swim in a pleasant pond. It was a great place to stop for a break. I swam and ate a snack. From there I went up to pleasant Pond Moutain. The sun was blistering there, but the views were very good. Then I descended to Bake Creek, that I had to vicar. The water knelt down and the rocks were very slippery. I did it safe and began to move towards my final climb of the day. The climb was quite easy, but the heat exhausted me all day. I arrived at the summit and I had a great view behind me. The summit was similar to a bald but with rock instead of earth. After arriving at the summit, I finished the day with a few miles downhill to the shelter. When I arrived at the shelter, I was surprised that no one was there. Today I saw many sobs. The shelter was in a pond, so I swam before bed. Although I cooled in the pond, it was difficult to sleep due to insects and heat. Maine is demonstrating to be challenging due to insects, heat and mud.

Day 113 Bald MTN Pond leans towards the Shaw’s Hiker hostel (17.9)

I started walking early this morning to get to Shaw as early as possible. The land was flat during most of the day, so I could maintain a good rhythm. Three river crosses slowed me throughout the day. In all three, the water came above my knees. I took my time and made sure to be safe. Towards the end of the day I went up to Buck Hill. It was not a difficult climb, but the heat made it much more difficult. After leaving Buck Hill, I walked quickly to the road where they picked me up to go to Shaw’s. Shaw’s was amazing. They had everything he could desire and was very relaxing. Once I settled, I walked to the general store with GQ, KT and Boose. I have a sandwich and ice cream. Then I took him to the nearby lake to eat. I swam in the lake once I finished eating and then returned to the shelter.

Day 114 Shaw’s Hiker Hostel to Cloud Pond Lean-To (19.4)

This morning I had a great breakfast at the shelter. I ate eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes. Everything was fantastic. After breakfast, the poet took me back to the path. The poet is such a good guy and my favorite hostel owner. As soon as I started walking, I entered the 100 mile desert. The 100 mile desert is the last section of the path before Katahdin and is very remote. The path was easy at the beginning of the day. I took my first break at Little Wilson Falls. The waterfall was big and very fresh. From there, the path remained quite easy, except for some rivers crosses. I finished the day with a rise to the sterile mountain. It was a solid but not too difficult rise. Near the top had excellent views of the lakes and mountains around me. After arriving at the summit I ended up with a few easy miles from the shelter. The shelter was located right in a beautiful pond. Fortunately it was much more great and there were no mistakes.
