Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his recovery from a quadriceps injury, the club confirmed on Thursday, casting fresh doubt over his return timeline.
Kudus, 25, has been sidelined since suffering the injury in January and was expected to return to action in March. The Ghana international had recently returned to partial team training, raising hopes of an imminent comeback, but the latest development points to an extended spell on the sidelines.
“We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury,” Tottenham Hotspur said in a statement. “He had returned to team training last week but will now require further medical examination and possibly surgery.”
The club has not given a definitive timeline for his recovery, but reports indicate Kudus could be out for another three months if surgical intervention is required.
The setback is a blow for both club and country. Kudus has been a key figure for the Ghana national football team, scoring 13 goals in 46 appearances and faces a race against time to regain fitness ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
At club level, Kudus has played nineteen games in the Premier League this season, scoring two goals and five assists. His absence adds to Tottenham’s concerns as they battle to stay out of the relegation zone, with crucial games looming in the latter part of the season.
