Olivier Giroud signs Deal with Ligue 1 Club Lille for a year


For the first time since 2012, Olivier Giroud returns to French football after signing a one -year -old deal with Ligue 1 Club Lille on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old, French record position display of all time, left MLS side Los Angeles FC last week.

Giroud played for the last time in the French top flight for Montpellier and won the Ligue 1-title 2011-12 before he left for Arsenal.

«I am very happy and excited to be back in France, at home,» Giroud said in a statement.

“It was completely logical to return to Ligue 1 13 years after leaving it. I have always considered Lille in the Top French Club.

«It is a young and talented team, who needs experienced players like me. So I will also be there in that role.»

Giroud spent six seasons with Arsenal and scored more than 100 goals for the London Giants before he signed for Chelsea, with whom he won the Champions League title of 2021.

He then spent three seasons with AC Milan and lifted the Serie A -Kroon in 2022 before he made the move to the US.

Giroud withdrew from international football last year with a record of 57 goals in 137 performances for France and won the World Cup 2018 with the national team.
