Day 81 – Relax in Pinecrest
Determined to get to Pinecrest, we left the forest service camp and walk to the road with our thumbs outside. It did not take long to get a hitch: Bruce, a kind man with a love for Bluegrass music, picked us up and somehow fit all four in his car.
He left us in the small town of Strawberry, to a couple of pinecrest miles. We met with the rest of our family of paths in a restaurant and had breakfast. My tortilla was delicious, and I especially appreciated the bottomless coffee.
After breakfast, we stopped at the Strawberry General Store to obtain some replenishment articles. Then we caught another quick hitch from a hiker who went to the mountains, which left us in the cabin of the path of the path that we had fixed to stay.
The cabin was unique and historical. The cookies, the kind Trail Angel who receives hikers every season, made us feel at home immediately. We start washing our clothes, we shower and change to the clothes of the city. We borrow cookies bicycles and travel to the post office and the general store. Chowder and I send our axes and ice microspikes home, then we take some more refueling articles and some snacks in the city.
Back in the cabin, we finish our tasks and walk towards the lake. Some other hikers joined us, and we spent a couple of hours chatting and soaking in the lake. Later that night, the cookies invited us to a homemade dinner. We sat outside, ate and talked to him while the sun set the sun.
We went to bed feeling relaxed and renewed, ready to reach the path again the next day.
Day 82 – Sabing the Sierra
We woke up with the smell of coffee and another homemade breakfast of the cookies, such as a delight. After packing, we say goodbye and walk a mile to the road to return to the path. Two women on a girls trip picked us up, and enjoyed chatting with them during the one -hour trip.
We were back on the way at 11:30 am, my pack felt heavy, but I was glad I had a better marked in my refueling this time, I was not worried about running out of food.
The path began with a climb and offered beautiful views of Sonora Pass. One thing that I love of the PCT is the frequency with which the landscape changes. After the climb came a long descent through snow patches and rocky terrain.
We stopped for lunch with a spoon. I had packed a gluten -free bread bar and made a peanut butter sandwich, with fries and rubber bears aside.
We had approximately 11 miles to the camp, including a long climb. I put on a podcast and I zonde during the ascent. We stopped to get water about four miles from the camp, then we walk through a beautiful meadow.
Unfortunately, our camp was extremely Buggy, so I had to prepare in my insect network and rain pants. Chowder and I did dinner, we saw some Star garas and we dragged into our store.
Day 83 – Our first marathon
We had a great day ahead, our first marathon! We woke up early, fortunately before mosquitoes. I was unusually clumsy this morning, spilling both my first cup of coffee and the water I was filtering. The mornings can be rough.
The first miles were soft, through meadows and forests. I began to notice more wild flowers lately!
We had a two -mile climb to a chair where we heard that there could be service, and I was eager to download some more podcasts. In the upper part, we were rewarded with a view of the noble lake and a fast snack.
In the descent, a south hiker told us that there was magic of paths four miles ahead. That gave us an impulse, but when we arrived, the angel of the path had already packed. Disappointing, but we still enjoy a great group lunch that reminded us of the desert days.
Chowder and I decided to push another 11 miles to the camp with spoon, stretching and PDF. The terrain continued to change excitingly: there were dramatic rock formations and many wild flowers.
Farout warned of a «steep traverse» a mile before the camp, which made me nervous, but ended up being much. We have handled a much harder path at this time.
We arrived at the camp around 7 pm and had to configure in our rain team due to insufficient errors. We had dinner, we saw more Star Wars and crashed.
Day 84 – Carson Pass and Trail Magic at the Visitors Center
I woke up with sore feet, but once I got up to grab the can of the bear, they felt good. It is wild how fast our bodies are adapting.
The mistakes were already out, so we adjust our usual routine to avoid letting them into the store.
First we had a climb, and it was already hot and wet at 6:30 am, we leaked water and continue uphill, passing several lakes and knowing a friendly group of day hikers. One of them asked how many caramel bars had: I told them, three giggles!
We take a break at the top of the climb for a snack and a bit of Nutella, then we continue. Just before Carson Pass, we find a beautiful lunch place, shading and without insects with a view. We relax there for a while with our friends.
The Carson Pass climb was soft compared to what we have faced in the Sierra. But we were annoying to see a backpacker pushing two older dogs along the path. They were clearly overheating, and the owner was shouting at them. It was difficult to witness, especially as dog lovers.
Beyond the pass, we had a short two -mile walk to the visitors center, where we were received by Trail Magic! Cold sodas, watermelon, snacks and wifi. We stayed a couple of hours to enjoy everything.
The PCT then joined Tahoe Rim Trail. We walked another five miles and stopped on a crest with an incredible view, where our new friend Swampy was camping. The mistakes were not so bad, so we decided to camp there too.
We have dinner, we finish Star WarsAnd even a new movie began. Tomorrow we go to the city again!
