Serie-A 2025-26: Rabiot’s strike helps AC Milan beat Verona 1-0 and move to second in the table

Adrien Rabiot strengthened AC Milan’s push for a return to the Champions League with the only goal in a 1-0 win over Verona on Sunday as the side climbed back to second place in Serie A.

The French midfielder struck in the 41st minute at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi to give Milan an eight-point lead over Como and Roma, who finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Rabiot scored his sixth league goal of the season after winning possession in midfield and exchanging passes with Rafael Leao in what proved to be the decisive moment in an otherwise subdued match.

Milan benefited from Como’s surprise defeat to Sassuolo on Friday and Roma’s draw against Atalanta on Saturday. With five matches remaining, the side is well positioned to secure a place in the top four.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri had said on Friday that he has already started making plans for next season with the club’s management, while ruling himself out of the vacant job in Italy.

Due to the fifth defeat in a row, Verona is on the brink of relegation. Paolo Sammarco’s side are bottom of the table, 10 points behind Cremonese, who occupy the spot just outside the drop zone after a goalless draw against Torino earlier in the day.

Juventus, currently in last place in the Champions League, can move five points clear of Como and Roma with a home win over Bologna later on Sunday.
