The Indian women’s football team has fallen two places to 69th in the latest FIFA rankings released on Tuesday.
The Blue Tigresses last featured in the four-team FIFA Series 2026 tournament in Kenya, where they finished third. India defeated Malawi 3-2 in the third-placed play-off match, having previously lost 0-2 to Kenya.
The host country lost 0-2 to Australia in the final.
Earlier this year, India were in action at the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup held in Australia. However, the side, led by Costa Rican manager Amelia Valverde, had a disappointing campaign, crashing out in the group stage after losses to Vietnam, Japan and Chinese Taipei.
Valderde, who was appointed on a short-term contract, was not offered an extension. Crispin Chhetri, who helped secure qualification for the continental tournament in the first place, was reappointed as head coach.
World champions Spain are in first place, while Japan is fifth as the highest-ranked Asian team.
