Chelsea has fired head coach Liam Rosenior after poor results, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.
Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in January, won just eleven of his 23 games at the London club.
Chelsea are seventh in the points table after 34 games and are seven points behind qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The Blues have lost their last five games without scoring a goal, with the latest defeat coming 0-3 to Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to express our thanks to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time at the club,” read a statement from the club.
“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism since his appointment mid-season.
“This is not a decision the club has taken lightly, but recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards and there is still so much to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.”
The club said Calum McFarlane will take over the duties, which also include Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United, on an interim basis until the end of the season.
