Lecce defeated Pisa 2-1 to send the Tuscan club to the Italian second division on Friday.
Pisa were promoted from Serie B a year ago, but are going down after a dismal season in Serie A, in which they have won only two of 35 games so far.
The result also meant relegation for Verona, second from bottom. It has 19 points, one more than Pisa, but it cannot overtake Lecce, which is in fourth place in the table with 32 points.
Lameck Banda put Pisa 1-0 in the 52nd minute, but Mehdi Léris equalized for the home team four minutes later.
However, Walid Cheddira scored a 65th-minute winner for visiting Lecce to move them four points above the relegation zone with three games to play.
Serie B side Venezia also got the point needed to secure promotion thanks to a 2-2 draw against Spezia.
Giovanni Stroppa’s team top Serie B, one point ahead of Frosinone, who can join Venezia in the top flight with a win or draw against Mantova in next Friday’s final match.
